APRIL 10, 2017 From: kenneth in the (212) Spoiler-Adjacent Material Ahead After the internet exploded over the finale of "Big Little Lies," Damian decided to jump on the post-hype bandwagon. We both enjoyed it -- I've heard enough stories from my sister about the bitchiness and in-fighting among moms to know they nailed this good, and Reese Witherspoon's character was like Tracy Flick all grown up, which is to say perfect! -- but at the risk of being total sticks in the mud, Damian immediately figured out Plot Twist One and I figured out Plot Twist Two. (Was it really that hard to figure out the bad guy was the bad guy?) The music was a bit shoe-horned in -- and no kids in the history of the world have ever acted like these with their precocious love of Otis Redding, Janis Joplin and Jefferson Airplane -- but we both thought it was really well done. This one's a fun cover I had never heard before ...

FEBRUARY 07, 2017 From: kenneth in the (212) Chrissie Hynde got fellow ex-music journalist Neil Tennant  into the studio to add new vocals to one  "Let's Get Lost," which originally appeared on the Pretenders' new "Alone" album.

 FEBRUARY 02, 2017 From: kenneth in the (212) I 'm Blondie's biggest fan who also dreads when they release new material. ("Panic of Girls" had its moments, but "Ghosts of Download" convinced me my cynicism was warranted. Can't they just rest on their laurels?!) Nonetheless, Debbie and Chris are hellbent on recording new material, so "Pollinator" was released last May. For whatever reason, the band  released an audio video for "Fun" -- is three months the normal lead time now? -- which you can judge for yourself here.  

JANUARY 31, 2017 From: kenneth in the (212)   Mary Tyler Moore was laid to rest during a private ceremony in Connecticut on January 29, 2017.  According to CBS, about 50 people attended the funeral and burial at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. Police said actress Bernadette Peters was among those who attended. The grave site was adorned with a statue of an angel and scores of flowers including white orchids and roses.  The Emmy-winning actress best known for her TV sitcom roles in “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “The Dick Van Dyke Show” died January 25, 2017. She was 80 and lived in Greenwich. A small number of fans gathered outside the front gate of the cemetery with signs saying, “I Love You,” “Rest in Peace” and “Mary (equals) Love!” P.S. Finally saw Valerie Harper's messages about her late friend.

DECEMBER 28, 2016 From: kenneth in the (212) Not unlike Sheena Easton, a friend tells me Debbie Gibson shies away from her own material while performing live, opting instead to cover show tunes and classics. Why either of them would do this -- especially when you wrote as many good songs as Debbie did during her electric youth -- is entirely beyond me. "Foolish Beat" was the fifth(!) single off her debut album, "Out of the Blue," and the only one to top the charts.
