A Look Back At Pre-Lochte Olympic Scandals

صورة
From: Queerty Ryan Lochte may be one of the best swimmers in the world, and one of the worst thugs, but he’s only mediocre when it comes to generating Olympic scandals. The event has a long, tawdry history of making the world gasp in shock, raise its collective eyebrows, and grab its pearls. Someone at E! just compiled a lurid collection of some of the strangest scandals and it’s an absolute must read for anyone who loves drama and dirt. Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding are of course top of mind — you may be old enough to recall the weird situation when Harding arranged to have someone hit Kerrigan’s legs before the games. Alas, the hit man wasn’t as good as Harding hoped, and Nancy wound up winning silver. Tonya is banned from the professional figure skating organization for the rest of her life. Then there’s Lance Armstrong with the whole drug-taking issue, along with Marion Jones , and Yulia Efimova who is alleged to have done the same. Tommie Smith and John Carlos delivered ...

Ryan Lochte Apologizes For Not Being More ‘Careful’ and ‘Candid’

صورة
From: Towleroad US Swimmer Ryan Lochte publicly apologized for not having been more “careful” and “candid” in his description of events that happened late at night at a gas station in Rio de Janeiro. As previously reported, Lochte claimed that he and his teammates were robbed at gunpoint by criminals disguised as police officers and that a gun was cocked and aimed at his forehead. He later revised the specifics of that story. Local police investigated Lochte’s claims and found no evidence to corroborate his version of events. Police then indicated that Lochte and his teammates vandalized a gas station bathroom and urinated on the floor. Lochte still insists that the incident ended with a gun being pointed at him. Read Lochte’s apology in full, which he posted on Instagram, below: I want to apologize for my behavior last weekend — for not being more careful and candid in how I described the events of that early morning and for my role in taking the focus away from the many athletes ful...

Ryan Lochte Apologizes “For My Behavior”; Won’t Admit He Lied About Being Robbed

From: Queerty “This was a situation that could and should have been avoided. I accept responsibility for my role in this happening and have learned some valuable lessons.” That’s a snippet of Ryan Lochte ’s limp, long-winded Instagram apology, which he posted this morning in light of revelations that he had not, in fact, get attacked at gunpoint in a Rio de Janeiro gas station last weekend, as he breathlessly told the press and Brazilian authorities this week: A photo posted by Ryanlochte (@ryanlochte) on Aug 19, 2016 at 7:11am PDT And yet, despite strong evidence to the contrary, he’s still insisting he was robbed: “ It’s traumatic to be out late with your friends in a foreign country — with a language barrier — and have a stranger point a gun at you and demand money to let you leave.” Talking to USA Today Sports on Tuesday, Lochte claimed he and three teammates –Jimmy Feigen, Jack Conger, and Gunnar Bentz — were robbed, but “initially did not tell the U.S. Olympic Committee… ‘be...

Ryan Lochte Keeps Changing His Story About That Alleged Robbery

صورة
From: Queerty As it has been reported, claims by Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte that he was robbed at gunpoint along with three fellow teammates has raised loads of speculation as to the veracity of his story, with Brazilian authorities trying to figure out what really happened on Sunday morning. One thing that’s not helping matters: the fact that details about the alleged robbery keep changing in significant ways. During a brief telephone interview with TODAY ‘s Matt Lauer, Lochte contradicted his earlier account of the robbery, which he’d related to TODAY ’s Billy Bush earlier this week: The guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and said ‘get down.’ I was like (puts hands up) I put my hands up. I was like ‘whatever.’ He took our money, he took my wallet. But speaking with Lauer, Lochte said the gun was aimed in his “general direction.” He initially told Bush, “We got pulled over in our taxi and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge. No lights, no nothin...

I Was Rooting For You, Ryan Lochte—We Were ALL Rooting For You!

Brazilian police claim the Olympic swimmer and his teammates were never robbed, but did trash a gas station bathroom. From: NewNowNext  We’ll admit we were hypnotized by Ryan Lochte ’s soulful eyes and Adonis-like body. But if reports from Brazil are to be believed, the Olympic swimmer and his teammates made up their story about being robbed at gunpoint to cover drunkenly destroying a gas-station bathroom.  According to Daily Mail police in Rio say Lochte, 32, and three other Team USA swimmers were intoxicated when they demolished the restroom, and it was a security guard who pulled a gun on them—demanding that they pay for damages. “They stopped at a gas station and they were all really drunk. They went to the toilet and damaged it pretty badly,” a source tells the paper. “The security guy saw them and started arguing with them – telling them they had to pay. They refused and argued back. He pointed his gun at them and insisted they pay for the damage – they gave him some money and l...

Rio Police: No Evidence Found Supporting Ryan Lochte Robbery Claim

صورة
From: Towleroad Police in Rio de Janeiro say they have been unable to find any evidence that corroborates the account given by US swimmer Ryan Lochte that he and 3 other swimmers were robbed at gunpoint near the Olympic Village. As we previously reported, Lochte shared the story with NBC News on Today . Via Sports Illustrated : …a police official told the AP that Rio police have had trouble confirming the account. The group did not call police, authorities said, and officers began investigating once they saw media reports in which Lochte’s mother spoke about the robbery. Police interviewed Lochte and one other swimmer, who said they had been intoxicated and could not remember what type and color of taxi they rode in or where the robbery happened, the police official said. The swimmers also could not say what time the events occurred, or when they left the French House. The robbery was initially a source of confusion for the USOC and IOC, who denied Lochte had been robbed Monday befor...

Is Ryan Lochte Lying About Being Robbed At Gunpoint In Rio?

صورة
From: Queerty The story just doesn’t add up. According to his mother, Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte was robbed at gunpoint this past weekend along with “at least one of his teammates.” But at the time, The Associated Press said the reports were “absolutely not true,” according to an IOC spokesman. But then, talking to USA Today Sports on Tuesday, Lochte claimed that yes, he was in fact robbed at gunpoint, but “initially did not tell the U.S. Olympic Committee… ‘because we were afraid we’d get in trouble.'” Here’s the tale Lochte recounted to USA Today: We got pulled over, in the taxi, and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge, no lights, no nothing just a police badge and they pulled us over,” Lochte said. “They pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground — they got down on the ground. I refused, I was like we didn’t do anything wrong, so — I’m not getting down on the ground. “And then the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to...
